Welcome to Healthy Medicine; promoting wellbeing and healthy lifestyles amongst the Australian community and supporting our natural therapies industry.

The Australian HealthyMedicine Society is a not for profit organisation that aims to promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing amongst the Australian community. We aim to educate the public about natural and alternative methods to achieving health and well-being without necessarily relying on prescription medicines or the latest Hollywood fad. Using our "Phases of Ageing" initiative as a template to provide information that is relevant to all demographics, our website contains articles ranging from teenage depression and anxiety, exercise plans for athletes, in-depth guides on flower remedies to cheap and healthy student recipes, exercises for pregnant women and helpful natural products to cure all kinds of common ailments.

Outside of the online medium, our staff is dedicated to the development and implementation of community programs that help to engage the youth of Australia, in particular under-privileged youth that are of disadvantaged areas. We hope to provide these kids with opportunity, hope and knowledge - learning about the value of a healthy lifestyle and the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse. Our overall goal of all of these programs is to provide talented youth opportunity, while providing communities with future leaders that have the necessary tools to make a positive impact.

We aim to educate Australians on how to obtain a healthy lifestyle, but also support other various organisations and practices which help them in doing so. Our website gives the public access to a large database of natural therapies practice listings from around Australia including chiropractors, osteopaths, naturopaths, physiotherapists and massage therapists in all the states.
If you wish to support our organization or wish to know more about us and our future endeavors feel free to e-mail us at info@healthymedicine.net.au or become a member and help us in creating a healthier community!

A healthy lifestyle is a healthy mind: youth and the relationship between physical activity and depression.

Every generation bears with it characteristics in relation to state of health. The dawn of the 21st century has seen amongst young people a growing lack of physical activity and its consequential health benefits as well as that of mental illness, and in particular depression. Continued studies have shown that depression and lack of physical activity are indeed inextricably linked.

The 20th Century has seen pharmaceutical-based medicine become the forefront of health care and make many wonderful contributions to the health of our people. Like most things it appears to have some limitations. There are many who challenge this model to be sickness-care rather than wellness-care. Most people will see their general practitioner as their first point of call and only when they are sick. Many see this as fixing sickness and symptoms instead of promoting wellness and healthy medicine.

Wellness is a concept that has come to mean a number of things. A definition offered by the National Wellness Association is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a more successful existence. These choices come from what is known as healthy medicine.

Healthy medicine is a deliberate term. Medicine is widely considered to be a science and art that maintains and restores health. However this is usually referred to in the context of injury and disease. Healthy medicine is more about our system as a whole and it being optimized instead of medicine to get free from a particular diagnosis of being unwell.

Wellness is not the absence of disease; it is a healthy balance of mind, body and spirit.

Wellness recognizes the need for people to make choices and take responsibility for the food we eat, the environments we live in, the balance between work and family, physical exercise, personal relationships, emotional and mental development.

Wellness and healthy medicine will be the way of the future. Many current therapies and treatments have wellness as a founding principle in their philosophies. It may have different names and processes but with close examination we can see wellness and healthy medicine principles coming through. Conventional medicine is starting to hear the message that care is more than a drug prescription. This is welcome. The more minds working in the same direction the better for us all.

We look forward to helping you with this information on the road to making some healthy medicine decisions.
