Breaking Initial Barriers
Many or most elderly people are likely to find it hard to actually get exercising. For many the task at hand can seem quite daunting, that it may be harmful, expensive or embarrassing due to the misconception that exercise is for younger or at least fitter people.
In fact, much research has shown that almost every single older adult can safely do some form of physical activity for little or no cost, and it doesn't have to constantly be in a public place, at a particularly fast pace or involve equipment. It needs to be emphasised that even the simplest of tasks and household chores can improve your health! In terms of harm risks, all studies show that in the long term older adults in all age groups that aren't exercising are damaging their health far more than those who do. As a rule, all older people should stay as physically active as possible.
